How to Tune to Drop C?

Drop C, hell yeah! As simple to play as Drop D, but just that bit heavier.

Here's how to get it:

  1. Start by tuning your guitar to standard tuning (EADGBE). This is called standard because most people and songs use this :)
  2. Tune your low E string down to C, two steps. You need to lower the pitch of your low E string by two whole steps. Using a tuner is the easiest way. Either a tune pedal or a little stick-on one. Or even an app on your phone can do the trick!
  3. Tune the rest of your strings down one whole step:
    • Tune the A string down to G.
    • Tune the D string down to C.
    • Tune the G string down to F.
    • Tune the B string down to A.
    • Tune the high E string down to D.

Once you’ve done this, your strings should be tuned to C G C F A D, which is Drop C tuning.

Now you can play similar to drop D, by barring the C, A and D strings and get that sweeeet heavy sound that's still quite melodic.

Or use a The Drop pedal (or a similar one):

This is what I personally do. It makes it a hell of a lot easier to play different tunings. Here's how to do this using this pedal:

  1. First tune your guitar to Drop D manually:
    • Tune your low E string down to D (so your guitar is now in DADGBE).
  2. Activate The Drop pedal and turn the knob to the 4th position This will drop all your strings by four half-steps (two whole steps).
    • Now your low D string will be dropped to C, and the rest of the strings will be tuned down to match Drop C (CGCFAD).

With The Drop pedal, you can quickly switch back to standard tuning without retuning your strings manually!
